Why host your own mail?

There are many reasons to host your own email. Perhaps you don’t like the limits placed on you by your current ISP. Maybe they aren’t willing to host the domain you want, or give you the access you want. And if they do fit your needs, they want to charge a small fortune. Maybe you want complete privacy. Or perhaps you just want to access your email from anywhere using a web-based frontend. The list goes on and on…

Setting Up a Name Server and Hosting Web Sites with Windows Server 2003

Posted in: Windows Server 2003 |

A lot of services allow you to manage your own domain name system (DNS) records for the domains you register. Almost any domain registrar has a web-based software console that you can use to manage these records. However, these services aren’t free. Windows Server 2003 can provide the same services for no cost whatsoever. Using Windows Server 2003 to manage your name server is even more beneficial if you host multiple web sites; you gain more control over the process—and the information stored about your servers—and you don’t need to go through a third party.

You’ll gain the biggest advantage from hosting multiple web sites using Internet Information Services (IIS), with each site having the same IP address. This process, called multi-homing, only works if you have your own DNS server in the same domain (or domain forest) as the IIS web server. Why bother? Because multi-homing web sites reduces hardware costs; no extra network cards are needed for each new site.

What Does Hosting Mean?

Posted in: Web Hosting |

While web pages are designed and developed on a single computer, they must be transferred to a server, or host, so that they are available to the rest of the world over the Internet. A host is simply a computer that has a constant, high speed connection to the Internet. Hosting companies rent space on these machines. Depending on your needs, a hosting plan can cost anywhere between $5 and $200 per month.

There are different hosting offers depending on the type, the size and the popularity of the site.

Make Money with Domain Parking

Posted in: Domain |

My previous post about domain names, was very popular, as my statistics of visitings shows.

Another way to make money with domains is parking it with a domain parking company. Companies like www.Sedo.com offer you to park your domain for free and providing their advertisements, so when someone visits your domain, they will see advertisements placed by your sponsor. Sedo also lists your name up for sale if you want to (also free). The only thing you have to do is forward your domain name to a specific address you will get when you register with Sedo.

They provide all the ads you will display on your domain and no action on your behalf will need to be made except for forwarding your domain which is usually done at your registrar’s control panel. After setting up the domain forward the ads will be displayed automatically each time some one visits your domain.

Once you have decided that you want to have your own website on the internet its important that you choose a domain name that accurately represents what you plan to use it for and what extra features you need to get the most out of it.

With over 80 million registered domains on the internet its becoming harder and harder to find relevant names that are available which are related to the topic you want to target, especially for .com domain names which are by far the most popular. A Domain Is What Makes A Site

Posted in: Domain |

A domain is how you would identify a site on the Internet. No two domains can be the same, and this is what makes each site unique. To host a website on the Internet, you will have to first register the domain. While earlier this used to be a very costly affair, it is very cheap now. It can be done for reasonable prices, and almost anyone can afford to register their sites.

It can also be called a host name, as this is what one will refer to when looking for a site. The colloquial term used for this is web address, and most computer experts would freak at the use of this term. This is completely incorrect and has to be referred to as a domain. This is what a website owner will use to replace his IP address, as naturally no one is going to remember such numbers.
